Hi,
I just was on the web this AM and happenned to stumble onto the Profiles in History site and was able to see all the super rare boxes that went for auction a few weeks ago. I can't believe this hasn't been brought up here. Frute Brutes,Kombos, Quisp, Quakes & Quangaroos,, Triple Snack,Cocoa Krispies with Coco the Elephant.and more & more. There are collectors out there that are definately in a different league than the majority of us. Would sure be nice if some of these cool boxes would eventually trikle their way down to us regular collectors. Anyone have any info on who Drier was?...Kurt |

Drier also had quite a collection of Charlie and the Chocolate factory props and Gene Wilder Willy Wonka screen used hero costumes up for auction. The taint is the guys (formerlly of Legendary Auctions)auctioning this stuff as they have been recently federally indited for price fixing, shilling and docotoring the T206 Honus Wagner (by triming the edges to make it look better than it was thus driving up the price.) that supposedly belonged to Wayne Gretsky and was auctioned for 2.8 million.
http://www.originalprop.com/blog/200...d-allegations/ PSA was formed in 1991 to protect collectors from card doctors, counterfeiters and other cheats. But the company has been a lightning rod for controversy. Collectors and dealers say PSA inflates grades for cards submitted by big-volume customers such as Mastro Auctions. The first card the company graded – another 1909 Wagner, at the time owned by NHL great Wayne Gretzky – had been cut from a sheet and later doctored, according to “The Card,” a book by two Daily News reporters. The Wagner, which PSA graded an 8 (on a scale of 1-10) sold for a record $2.8 million last year, even though a former PSA authenticator has said the company knew the card had been doctored. Yes Kurt your right there is a whole different level of collecting one full of scams and big money fraud... Last edited by [Banned User]; 08-14-2012 at 08:16 PM. |

Andy, Most of what you posted is likely true, however, there is one glaring exception. Profiles In History auctioned the Dreier's collection of Hollywood memorabilia/toys/cereal boxes NOT Legendary Auctions, who is handling their sports memorabilia collection. |

Would still be interested in the story of the boxes, not interested in the other items. Anyone have any clue where they ended up. If this was the attic find we would be posting like crazy. OK, we weren't privy to these boxes like the Spike collection, but it's still something when a group of such fine boxes comes to light. Since I wasn't aware of this auction house or that many cereal boxes period are sold outside of ebay or privately, maybe there's more being sold through auction houses like this than I/we are aware of....Kurt

I was sold boxes and memorabilia to Chad for over 7 years. He was by far the biggest buyer of cereal boxes for the last 10 years. He was also a huge toy, sports, etc collector. He had a personal museum packed with amazing stuff. The boxes in the Profiles auction were a tiny percentage of his whole collection. Most of his interest was in 50's boxes.

So it was one person's collection. Wow. So I'm assuming he passed away. Is Profiles in charge of selling the rest of his cereal boxes?

It's 100% true. click the link in my earlier post.
Dreier had quite a bit of stuff auctioned through the guys associated with Legendary/Mastro, namely the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory stuff. Check jasons candyblog for some details. This kind of hustle is the norm with big ticket collectables, auction houses and grading services like PSA who gave the 2.8 million Wagner a card a PSA 8 rating even though they admitted to knowing it was doctored. A lot of flak is directed at CGC also with there funny comic grading. |
